How to Customize and Print a Building-Challenge Party Kit and Invitation

The free Creative Builders Party Starter opens in BoboCreate, so you can rewrite its build briefs for your guests, match its colors to your invitation, then print and cut the cards. This guide covers the starter first, then the matching invitation.

Both downloads are the free edition. The editable file opens in BoboCreate Desktop.

The editable file imports in BoboCreate Free 0.3.19 or later. It uses one of Free's three design places, and its own artwork does not count toward your three uploaded images. Older versions of the app need BoboCreate activated to import it, so update BoboCreate first.

BoboCreate is a desktop design app for Mac and Windows, and the free plan is enough for this project. The free plan holds 3 designs and 3 of your own pictures; free starters from Bobotemp are signed, so the starter’s artwork does not use up your picture allowance, but it does take one design place.

You need the starter’s free editable `.bobo` file from the Creative Builders Party Starter page, US Letter card stock (65–110 lb) for the cards, plain Letter paper for the Plan Sheets, and scissors or a paper trimmer.

Write your own build briefs

Every word in the starter is a live text box. Keep card 1, Speed Tower, as it is: it is always the Round 1 warm-up. Rewrite the others by typing into the template’s own boxes, keeping the five-line shape so each card still works with the Judge Cards.

Two tricks keep custom briefs fair: measure against the Plan Sheet, which is 11 inches tall, so nobody needs a ruler; and build every test around the shared test kit (a book, a toy car, a small toy and two chairs). After editing, check that your material still has at least two cards besides Speed Tower.

Match the invitation

Change the card fonts and colors to echo your invitation. In the Host Guide you can replace the run-of-show minutes with clock times, such as “2:00–2:05”, so helpers know what comes next.

Export, print and cut

Export a vector PDF and print at 100% (actual size), not “fit to page”. Use card stock for the Brief Cards, Judge Cards and Builder Awards, and plain paper for the Plan Sheets. Leave the Plan Sheets untrimmed: they are the 11-inch measuring stick.

For 12 guests in 3 crews playing three rounds, print 9 Plan Sheets, 3 Judge Card pages and 2 Awards pages, plus one Host Guide, Brief Card page and Scoreboard. Cut on the dotted lines, sort the Brief Cards by their material line and set Speed Tower on top.

Print a matching invitation two to a sheet

The Cardboard Builders and Crystal Cave Expedition invitations are 5×7 cards with a front and a back, personalized in the Bobotemp editor and downloaded as a PDF or JPG. You can also connect BoboCreate to your Bobotemp Purchases and import a purchased template to edit on your computer.

When an invitation is open in BoboCreate, its PDF export can place two copies on a US Letter sheet with crop marks. Print one test sheet on plain paper, check that the back lines up with the front, then print on card stock at 100% and trim along the crop marks.

What the full kit adds

The 18-page Builders & Explorers Party Kit adds nine more brief cards, a second awards page so 16 builders each get a different title, and the Crystal Cave Expedition: a host guide, a hiding-spot plan, eight picture clue cards, a map with a Gem Gate, gem tokens, an explorer journal, a blanket-cave finale and certificates. It is not available until its Bobotemp listing is separately approved.

Download and install BoboCreate Desktop for Mac or Windows.
Download the free `free-creative-builders-party-starter.bobo` file.
In BoboCreate, choose Open or Import and select the file.
Rewrite the briefs and change the colors; preview all six pages.
Export a PDF and print at 100% or Actual Size.
