How to Customize a Knitting Project Tracker
Most knitting surprises start with gauge. This free four-page starter opens in BoboCreate, so you can type in the needles you own and the way you like to work, then print a fresh set for every project.
Both downloads are the free edition. The editable file opens in BoboCreate Desktop.
The editable file imports in BoboCreate Free 0.3.19 or later. It uses one of Free's three design places, and its own artwork does not count toward your three uploaded images. Older versions of the app need BoboCreate activated to import it, so update BoboCreate first.
Print the PDF to fill in by hand at the needles, or open the `.bobo` file to type in the things that stay the same: your needle sizes, your usual yarns and your name.
The starter records your own projects. It has no patterns — keep those where you bought them — and no care advice: copy care lines from your ball bands.

Measure the swatch twice
Knit a swatch big enough to measure the middle, count stitches over at least 4 inches, then wash and dry it the way you will wash the finished piece and count again. The gauge swatch record has a row for each measurement, so you can see whether the yarn grew.
Check the size you will really get
Divide the pattern’s stitch count by your stitches per inch. If the pattern casts on 100 stitches for 20 inches at 5 stitches per inch and you knit 5.5, you will get about 18.2 inches. The swatch page has a line for this before you commit.
Make the progress notes yours
Rename the columns to suit how you work — chart line, round number or pattern section — and write one line every time you put the knitting down. Future you will know exactly where to pick up.
What the full journal adds
The 24-page journal adds knitting math with worked examples, a project queue, stash inventory and yarn band cards, a part-skein estimator, swatch comparisons, size and fit notes, restart cards, row trackers, modification records, gift planning, care cards and knitter’s graph paper. It is available on Bobotemp for $6.99.
Open the editable template in BoboCreate
- Download and install BoboCreate Desktop for Mac or Windows.
- Download the free `free-knitting-project-starter.bobo` file.
- In BoboCreate, choose Open or Import and select the file.
- Type your needle sizes and usual yarns; preview all four pages.
- Export a PDF and print at 100% or Actual Size.
